The pink salt lagoon of Torrevieja, the Laguna Salada, under a clear blue sky: rose-pink water rippling up to a curving shore crusted with brilliant white salt and marked with footprints, a sandy spit across the lagoon and a low line of white houses on the far shore

NIE Torrevieja — residents, retirees and second-home owners

The comisaría on Calle Arquitecto Larramendi lists residence; a NIE on its own may mean Orihuela or Alicante. We work out your office, prepare the forms and the 790-012 fee with you, and help you find a cita previa.

Three ways in

Which of these sounds like you?

Torrevieja grew up around its salt works and its harbour, and it has become one of the most international towns of the Costa Blanca. People from Britain, Scandinavia, the Low Countries, Ukraine and Latin America live next to Spanish families, and many homes along the coast belong to owners who come for only part of the year.

All of those lives meet the same piece of paper sooner or later. Buying a flat, signing an electricity contract, starting a job or registering as a resident: each one asks for a NIE. The form, the office and the appointment depend on your passport and on whether you live here or only stay for a while, and that is what we work through with you.

  • I carry a European passport

Living here is your right. Beyond three months you register: form EX-18, then a green certificate with your NIE printed on it.

    EU registration: the green certificate
  • I carry a British or other non-EU passport

A visa or a granted permit first, then fingerprints for the TIE card. Living here on a UK passport since before 2021? Yours is the Withdrawal Agreement TIE.

    TIE: fingerprints, then the card
  • I own or buy here, but live abroad

Your life is elsewhere, your flat is here. You need the NIE on its own, on form EX-15, listed at Orihuela and Alicante or requested through a consulate.

A home here, a life abroad

Every guide

14 guides, laid out like the salt pans

This site takes its colours and shapes from Torrevieja’s pink salt lagoon seen from above, and from the small cubes that salt forms as it crystallises: clear edges, nothing hidden.

  • Europeans: EU, EEA and Swiss
  • Britons and other non-Europeans
  • Owners, workers and Torrevieja itself

How we work

From a first message to a finished file

  1. Step 1: Write a few lines about yourself

Your nationality, whether you live here or visit, and what the NIE is for: a purchase, a job, retirement, family. Our email back names your procedure and the office it points to.

  2. Step 2: Your list, clear as salt

You receive the list for your case: the EX form, the casilla (box) on the fee form, the evidence to gather. The forms are completed together, and each paper is read before it joins the folder.

  3. Step 3: A date that suits you

We look for an appointment in the province of Alicante around your flights, your work or your signing date, and we read the confirmation with you, town and address included.

  4. Step 4: Ready for the day

A short note before the appointment: where, when, what to bring and what may be asked. Afterwards, what follows: the card, the padrón, the notary or the Social Security number.

Oficina de Extranjería · Torrevieja

Extranjería Torrevieja: residence here, the NIE alone nearby

The Comisaría de Torrevieja, Calle Arquitecto Larramendi 3, lists the residence procedures for EU and non-EU citizens; policia.es does not list the stand-alone NIE there, while the Comisaría de Orihuela and the Brigada in Alicante do. Residence and work authorisations go to the Oficina de Extranjería in Alicante, and the padrón to the Ayuntamiento de Torrevieja. We help people from La Mata and the town centre to Orihuela Costa, Los Montesinos, Rojales and Guardamar del Segura.

Getting to the comisaría

We found no official page describing a bus or train to these offices, and the town hall’s notices about Torrevieja’s urban buses never mention the comisaría or its street, so this page names no line. Work out your route from the address on the slip, and allow a few spare minutes to find the door.

Torrevieja, Orihuela or Alicante?

Your padrón, at the Ayuntamiento

The Ayuntamiento de Torrevieja’s Censo y Estadística section keeps the padrón for the town and La Mata: a first registration or a change of address by cita previa on the town hall’s sede electrónica, or online with an electronic ID, and renewal letters served without an appointment. The Concejalía de Residentes Internacionales helps with it in English and other languages, by appointment. Orihuela Costa registers in Orihuela.

Why people ask us

Plain help, from the first question onwards

  • Answers for your passport, not everyone’s

Torrevieja is a town of many passports. A Swede, a Briton and a Venezuelan each face a different form, and sometimes a different office, so we answer for yours alone.

  • Calm, plain English

Short sentences, one step at a time, and every Spanish word explained the first time it appears. Read at your own pace; nothing here is urgent unless your dates are.

  • The office question, settled early

Here the right office is not always the nearest one. We read what policia.es lists for each station and tell you what to expect before you book, not after.

  • Private, and open about it

We are an independent private service. Decisions belong to the police, the Subdelegación and the Ayuntamiento; our job is your preparation. If your question is really one for a lawyer or a tax adviser, you will hear that from us plainly.

Where Torrevieja asks for your NIE

  • A flat in La Mata or a bungalow in Los Balcones
  • Signing the escritura at a notary’s office
  • Registering as a European resident
  • Swapping an old green certificate for a TIE
  • Fingerprints for a first residence card
  • A job contract with a local employer
  • Gas, power and water contracts in your name
  • An inheritance or the sale of a Spanish home

Two independent firms

For the parts of your plan we do not cover

We prepare procedures and appointments for people in Torrevieja. Two independent private firms take on other needs: a whole move organised from abroad, or a NIE requested while you stay at home. Neither belongs to the administration, any more than we do.

Cita previa NIE Torrevieja: how is it booked?

On the administration’s booking pages at sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es. Choose Alicante as the province, then the trámite (procedure) for your form, then a date. Booking is free, and the confirmation names the office.

Extranjería Torrevieja: which office handles what?

policia.es lists residence for EU and non-EU citizens at the Comisaría de Torrevieja, Calle Arquitecto Larramendi 3 (966 130 362). It lists the NIE on its own at the Comisaría de Orihuela, Calle El Sol 34 (966 737 278), and at the Brigada in Alicante, Calle Ebanistería 6 (965 019 393). The Oficina de Extranjería, Calle Ebanistería 4 y 6, Alicante (965 019 300), rules on permits to live and work.

Can I get a NIE on its own on Calle Arquitecto Larramendi?

Not according to policia.es, which does not list it there; no official page we found settles the question either way. Book the NIE procedure for the province of Alicante and go to the office on your confirmation, which may be Orihuela, Alicante or another office that lists it.

Huellas TIE Torrevieja: what do I bring?

Form EX-17, signed; your passport with the visa; a recent colour photograph; the paid 790-012; and the resolución (the written decision) if your permit was granted in Spain. A padrón certificate helps.

Certificado de registro UE Torrevieja: which evidence counts?

One of these: a job contract, your registration as an autónomo (self-employed worker), a pension or savings with health cover, or studies with health cover. With it: the EX-18, an ID card or passport, and proof that the 790-012 is paid.

Empadronamiento Torrevieja: where do I register?

With the Ayuntamiento de Torrevieja, whose Censo y Estadística section keeps the padrón, the register of residents. A first registration or a change of address is booked by cita previa on the town hall’s sede electrónica, or done online with an electronic ID. Take the signed form, an identity document and the papers that tie you to the home: the deed or IBI receipt for owners, the contract, latest rent receipt and a utility bill for tenants. A home in Orihuela Costa registers in Orihuela instead.
